Many Voices, One Story: Celebrating the 45th Toronto International Storytelling Festival by Kesha Christie

“Many voices tell a story”—there’s no better way to describe the vibrant and diverse storytelling community we have in Toronto and around the globe. The stories we share, explore the essence of humanity, our curiosity, courage, and overall human experience. As the 45th Toronto International Storytelling Festival approaches, the excitement is building. If you love stories, this is a festival you absolutely can’t miss.

A Gathering for All Ages

Kesha Christie

One of the most wonderful things about the festival is the incredible mix of people it brings together. Folks of all ages come to listen to stories that reflect our shared human journey. From folktales to stories of resilience and ability, the festival’s events offer something for everyone. You’ll see performances by emerging storytellers, local favourites, and internationally acclaimed tellers, all sharing the stage to celebrate the art of storytelling.

Taking You on a Storytelling Journey

As a storyteller, there’s something magical about taking an audience on a journey through words. At the festival, we get to captivate, inspire, and transport listeners to different worlds. It’s a welcome pause from our fast-paced lives, a chance to enjoy a global adventure without leaving your seat. The festival creates a space where stories are not just told but experienced and cherished.

The Stories of Little Jamaica: REPLAY!

I’m especially excited about “The Stories of Little Jamaica: REPLAY!” This series first kicked off in 2022, where we shared tales about life in Jamaica, bringing the island’s vibrant culture and rich stories to the diaspora. It was amazing to see the impact these stories had on everyone.

This year, on June 12th, at the Maria A. Shchuka Library in Little Jamaica, we’re presenting a replay of the series finale. I’m honored to share the stage with the legendary Rita Cox and Jan Blake, who will be joining us in person this time. Together, we’ll share Anansi stories and other beloved tales from Jamaica, creating a truly memorable experience. This event is a unique chance to celebrate our heritage and connect through the power of storytelling.

Join Us for an Unforgettable Experience

Whether you’re nearby or far away, we invite you to join us for this extraordinary event. “The Stories of Little Jamaica: REPLAY!” is more than just a storytelling session; it’s a celebration of our culture and a way to connect with stories that have shaped our lives. Come be part of this incredible experience, where we will create lasting memories together.
